The Artful Trout
John dory fins
Couldn't load pickup availability
The John dory fish has the most beautiful dorsal fin. I managed to find one that had been line-caught so the fins were in reasonably good condition. I was able to photograph it with its radiating spines looking pretty good. John Dory are also known as St Peter's Fish, this is due to the black spot on the side of the fish where it is said to represent the fingerprint of St Peter when he lifted it from the sea.

How this image was created: I have always photographed fish with the highest definition possible. As a result, the images can be enlarged to AO size and beyond. It also means that you can take a small part of an image and when printed will still be an acceptable resolution. This is so with the dorsal fins of this Dory. Mirroring, cutting and pasting the dorsal fins makes a pleasing shape. Then repeating the process you end up with something very beautiful. © Terry Wreford Hann
